USD/CHF weakens below 0.8270 as sellers target support near 0.8225

The USD/CHF pair extends its bearish correction after failing to break above 0.8270, retreating below 0.8250 as selling pressure intensifies. Trading near 0.8244, the pair remains close to the lower boundary of its recent range, with 0.8225 emerging as critical support. The rejection reinforces the short-term bearish structure and increases the risk of a breakdown.

Risance’s analysts present valuable insights and comprehensive assessments of the subject.

The US Dollar (USD) remains under pressure as markets increasingly anticipate a Federal Reserve (Fed) interest-rate pause. Expectations of unchanged borrowing costs are limiting the Dollar’s yield advantage, while concerns about AI-sector valuations and profitability are weighing on demand for US assets.

These fundamental pressures coincide with deteriorating technical momentum, leaving USD/CHF vulnerable to further losses.

Fed Policy Expectations Weaken Dollar Demand

Interest-rate expectations remain a primary driver of the pair’s near-term direction. The CME FedWatch Tool indicates an 82% probability that the Fed will leave rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting, compared with 42% one month earlier.

This shift reflects a substantial repricing of monetary-policy expectations despite recent inflation readings exceeding forecasts.

A pause would reduce the likelihood of additional monetary tightening and constrain the US Dollar’s recovery potential. For USD/CHF, changing interest-rate differentials may sustain selling pressure, particularly if investors continue reducing their long USD positions.

The outlook remains sensitive to inflation data, employment indicators, and Fed communications. A more hawkish policy signal could trigger a corrective rebound, while confirmation of a prolonged pause could reinforce the bearish bias.

AI Valuation Risks Add Pressure to the US Dollar

Concerns about AI-related equity valuations represent another potential headwind for the Greenback. Foreign investors purchased approximately $942 billion in US equities over the twelve months through July, according to figures highlighted by MUFG.

These capital inflows have supported US Dollar demand and increased the currency’s sensitivity to equity-market sentiment.

Deteriorating expectations for AI-sector earnings could prompt portfolio rebalancing, reduce foreign demand for US assets, and weaken Dollar inflows. The impact on USD/CHF will depend on broader risk conditions, since the Swiss Franc also attracts safe-haven demand during financial uncertainty.

Swiss economic data has offered limited directional support. The country’s trade surplus narrowed to CHF 1.309 billion, from a revised CHF 4.185 billion, as imports increased more strongly than exports. The limited market reaction suggests that Fed expectations and global capital flows remain more influential than recent trade figures.

Technical Analysis: Double-Top Formation Threatens 0.8225

The four-hour chart indicates a moderately bearish structure, with USD/CHF trading near 0.8244 after rejection at 0.8270. The 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 38.43, below the neutral 50 threshold, indicating that sellers retain control.

Although the RSI approaches oversold territory, its current reading does not confirm an imminent reversal.

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator has turned marginally positive, suggesting that downside momentum is losing intensity. This divergence between price weakness and improving short-term momentum raises the possibility of consolidation, although bullish confirmation requires a sustained recovery above resistance.

The immediate focus is 0.8225, which aligns with previous swing lows and the potential neckline of a double-top pattern formed around 0.8390. Repeated failures near this resistance zone indicate weakening buying pressure.

A decisive four-hour close below 0.8225 would confirm the bearish breakdown and strengthen the double-top formation. Initial downside exposure would emerge around 0.8180, corresponding to previous September lows.

Further selling could extend toward 0.8070, the approximate measured-move target calculated by projecting the pattern’s height below its neckline.

Resistance Levels and Bullish Invalidation

On the upside, 0.8270 represents immediate resistance, and the first level buyers must reclaim to reduce selling pressure. A sustained move above this barrier could open a recovery toward 0.8315, where former support may now act as resistance.

Beyond 0.8315, the 0.8390–0.8400 resistance zone remains the principal structural barrier. A sustained breakout above this region would weaken the double-top interpretation and signal a potential shift in the broader price structure. Until then, recovery attempts may remain corrective within the prevailing bearish trend.

Conclusion

The USD/CHF forecast remains bearish below 0.8270, as weakening Dollar demand and negative technical signals place 0.8225 support under immediate pressure. The RSI at 38.43 confirms bearish momentum, while the marginally positive MACD suggests that selling pressure could temporarily moderate.

A confirmed break below 0.8225 would validate the potential double top near 0.8390, exposing 0.8180 and the measured downside target at 0.8070. A recovery above 0.8270, followed by a break through 0.8315, would ease immediate downside risks.

The decisive signal remains the price reaction at 0.8225, where a breakdown could initiate the next bearish leg.
