Bitcoin Cools Off as Bulls Fight to Keep the Trend Alive

Bitcoin (BTC/USD) remained under pressure on Monday as traders reacted to weaker risk sentiment, the first Bitcoin ETF outflows in 10 days, and concerns about tighter financial conditions. The pair dropped to around $78,146, modestly below this month’s high of $81,331. This topic is explored in detail by the experts at FCM Invest in this article.

The correction follows a sharp recovery in Bitcoin, with the cryptocurrency recently trading above the $80,000 psychological threshold for the first sustained period since May.

The market is now entering a technically important consolidation phase as traders evaluate whether the move represents a normal retracement within a developing uptrend or the beginning of a deeper correction

Recent market data also show Bitcoin testing the area around its 50-week moving average near $81,000–$81,800, making the $81,000 region an increasingly important technical resistance zone.

Macro Conditions Create Short-Term Headwinds

The main fundamental risk remains monetary-policy uncertainty. US inflation continues to exceed the 2% target, while both headline and core inflation remained above 3% in July. Persistent inflation reduces the probability of aggressive monetary easing and increases the possibility that interest rates remain restrictive for longer.

For Bitcoin, this is important because higher interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset. Higher Treasury yields can attract capital away from speculative assets, while tighter financial conditions can reduce the amount of liquidity available to cryptocurrency markets.

If the benchmark policy rate moves toward approximately 3.75%–4.00%, the resulting increase in real and nominal yields could create additional pressure on BTC/USD. However, the relationship is not one-directional.

Concerns surrounding fiscal expansion, elevated government debt, and potential currency debasement can simultaneously increase demand for scarce assets such as Bitcoin.

Bitcoin ETF Flows Remain Critical

Institutional flows are another major variable. Recent spot Bitcoin ETF activity has shown a significant recovery in demand, with approximately $2.5 billion flowing into spot Bitcoin ETFs over seven trading days in late August

Another recent weekly reading showed approximately $1.92 billion of inflows, highlighting the scale of institutional participation during the recovery.

This makes ETF flows one of the most important confirmation signals for Bitcoin‘s next move. Sustained inflows above $1 billion per week would strengthen the argument that institutional demand is supporting the rally. Conversely, a prolonged sequence of large net outflows would increase the probability that the current recovery is losing momentum.

A single negative session should therefore be interpreted cautiously. The more important signal is whether ETF redemptions persist for several consecutive sessions while BTC/USD trades below $80,000.

BTC/USD Technical Analysis

The daily technical structure remains cautiously bullish, although momentum has weakened. Bitcoin has retraced approximately 3.9% from $81,331 to $78,146, which is relatively modest compared with the cryptocurrency’s historical volatility.

The first major resistance remains $81,000–$81,331. A decisive daily close above $81,331 would confirm a breakout from the current consolidation range and could open the way toward higher resistance levels. Recent analysis has identified the $81,000–$81,800 region as particularly important because it overlaps with the 50-week moving-average area.

On the downside, $75,000 is the primary structural support. At $78,146, this level is approximately 4.0% below the current price. A decline from $81,331 to $75,000 would represent a correction of roughly 7.8%.

Bitcoin is also maintaining a position above its 50-day EMA, preserving the medium-term bullish bias. A sustained daily close below this indicator would weaken the trend structure, particularly if accompanied by rising volume and negative ETF flows.

The price pattern continues to resemble an ascending channel, indicating that BTC is consolidating while maintaining an upward trajectory. A breakdown through the lower boundary, combined with a loss of $75,000, would provide considerably stronger evidence of a bearish transition.

BTC/USD Outlook

The current setup can best be described as bullish consolidation under increasing macro pressure. Bitcoin remains below the $81,331 resistance, but the market has not yet produced a decisive breakdown below $75,000.

The bullish case is supported by strong institutional ETF demand, the recovery above major medium-term moving averages, and the preservation of the $75,000 structural support. The bearish case is centered on inflation above 3%, restrictive monetary policy, elevated yields, and potential deterioration in ETF flows.

The technical boundaries are therefore clearly defined. A daily close above $81,331 would strengthen the bullish continuation scenario, while a daily close below $75,000 would materially increase downside risk.

Until one of these levels breaks decisively, BTC/USD retains a cautiously bullish medium-term structure. The next major directional move is likely to depend on the interaction between ETF flows, inflation, interest-rate expectations, liquidity conditions, the 50-day EMA, the 50-week moving average, and Bitcoin‘s ability to defend the $75,000 support zone.
