Arm Holdings has more than doubled in value year-to-date and now carries a market cap above $300 billion. Brokers from Rubinax dive into this topic, noting that there’s still a substantial gap between the company’s current valuation and the $1 trillion milestone.
Even so, powerful AI tailwinds could potentially push the stock toward that benchmark within just a few years. A vast intellectual property portfolio tied directly to AI infrastructure, combined with surging demand for central processing units, has propelled the rally so far, and both catalysts show little sign of slowing.
A High-Margin Business Built on Licensing
Almost all of Arm’s revenue comes from its IP portfolio, which covers key components used in smartphones, laptops, AI data centers, and 5G technology. Artificial intelligence has become the company’s primary growth driver in recent quarters.
Overall revenue reached $4.92 billion in fiscal 2026, up 23% year-over-year, marking the company’s third consecutive year of more than 20% revenue growth. That kind of sustained acceleration is rare for a company of Arm’s size and maturity.

Much of that revenue comes from royalties paid by major tech companies producing AI chips, including Nvidia. These companies pay for the right to legally build products using Arm’s designs, since without that intellectual property, the products simply can’t be manufactured.
Entering the Hardware Business for the First Time
Arm Holdings is taking a significant strategic step by moving beyond its traditional licensing model and entering the hardware space, specifically through the design of its own CPUs. This marks a notable shift in business model, positioning the company to capture a larger share of the semiconductor value chain rather than relying primarily on royalty and licensing revenue.
The transition is supported by Arm’s deep intellectual property expertise, which has long underpinned its dominance in mobile and increasingly in data center architectures. That foundation provides a natural competitive advantage as it expands into designing complete hardware solutions, particularly in markets driven by performance efficiency and scalability.
Encouragingly, this pivot is already translating into tangible demand. Since announcing the initiative earlier this year, the company has secured more than $2 billion in customer commitments spanning fiscal 2027 and 2028.
This early traction serves as a strong validation of its hardware strategy, suggesting that major clients are willing to adopt Arm-designed processors as part of their long-term infrastructure plans.

If execution remains strong, this move could become a key growth driver, accelerating revenue expansion and strengthening Arm’s position in high-demand segments such as AI, cloud computing, and next-generation data centers.
Why CPU Demand Could Quadruple
Arm Holdings expects data centers to become its largest growth engine, with its traditional licensing and royalty streams continuing in the background while CPUs emerge as the primary driver of future expansion. This shift is closely tied to the rise of agentic AI, where autonomous systems require significantly more coordination, orchestration, and general-purpose compute functions that rely heavily on CPUs.
Today, data centers typically operate with a CPU-to-GPU ratio of roughly 1:4 to 1:8, meaning each CPU supports multiple GPUs. However, as AI workloads evolve, that balance is expected to change. Agentic AI systems demand more CPU involvement for tasks such as task scheduling, memory management, and real-time decision-making, pushing the ratio closer to 1:1 or 1:2 over time.
This structural shift has major implications. Even without an increase in the total number of data centers, a rebalancing of CPU-to-GPU deployment alone could drive a multi-fold increase in CPU demand. In practical terms, that suggests CPU demand could potentially quadruple from current levels as infrastructure adapts to new AI-driven workloads.
Given its deep presence in chip architecture and design, Arm is well-positioned to capture a meaningful share of this growth, particularly as hyperscalers and enterprise customers look for efficient, scalable CPU solutions tailored to next-generation computing demands.
The Path to $1 Trillion
If Arm Holdings successfully capitalizes on the current surge in CPU demand and its stock performance keeps pace, reaching a $1 trillion valuation before 2030 is within the realm of possibility. However, the margin for error is extremely thin, as the stock already trades at approximately 60× trailing sales, a premium valuation that prices in strong future growth and leaves little room for execution missteps.
From an investment perspective, this is clearly a high-conviction but high-risk growth story.
The bullish case rests on several powerful drivers: a durable licensing moat, which continues to generate recurring revenue; an expanding push into hardware, opening new revenue streams; and a structural shift toward higher CPU demand, fueled by trends such as AI, cloud computing, and data center expansion.
Taken together, these factors make the trillion-dollar scenario plausible but far from guaranteed. Achieving that milestone would likely require near-flawless execution, sustained demand growth, and the ability to justify its elevated valuation over time.
